Andre Louis (AKA Onj) is an incredible musician from London who performs a variety of stylised pieces he’s composed himself, crafting a distinctive sound that stands out in today’s evolving music landscape. A seasoned performer who has headlined Camden’s renowned Jazz Cafe, Andre is a visually impaired musician turned mentor, channelling his passion for music into making DJ and production technology more accessible for visually impaired users.
His drive for accessibility has inspired him to share his knowledge by teaching blind students how to use industry-standard software such as Logic Pro and DAWs - giving them the same access to a creative outlet that has shaped his own journey.
Recently, Andre travelled down to SupaJam Canterbury to record a live video podcast. In front of a live audience made up of SupaJam students and staff. He talked through his production setups for live performance and shared insights from his career while answering questions insightfully and honestly. It was an incredible opportunity for our students to hear directly from someone making a real impact in the music industry.
Andre also showcased his skills, demonstrating how accessible technology has transformed his workflow. Students were completely captivated by his finger drumming and his ability to take their creative prompts on board to make music live in the moment.
A particular highlight for our students was Andre’s deep knowledge of the history of accessible equipment — from companies that include accessibility by design to those that overlook it entirely. What resonated most, though, was his honesty about how he got to where he is: not through instant talent but through practice and perseverance. It’s a message we love our students to hear — that hard work and consistency are what lead to success.
Andre’s skills are unmatched and the live podcast was not only informative but genuinely enjoyable. We’re so pleased to be able to share it with you. It’s absolutely worth a watch (or listen!).
Andre has also been mentoring some of our SupaJam students, and the results have been nothing short of incredible. The skills on display are unreal and Andre continues to be a huge inspiration.
